The Most Important Data Skill You Might Be Neglecting
This week’s content is about how to learn SQL.
I focused on Data Analysis for this video, but if you’re learning AI or ML, don’t skip this!
It’s really common for folks who are more interested in the engineering side to forget to learn SQL, and then be *really embarrassed* when they can’t get the data they need on the job. You don’t need to be an expert, but it’s worth spending a little time on this skill.
Plus it’s easy to learn (if you do it right), so you have no excuse. 😃
A Personal Update
Hey everyone,
First off, Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Yule/Festivus. No matter what you’re celebrating this time of year, I hope you have a calm, loving, and joyful time.
I don’t have anything inspiring to say today. Instead, I just wanted to share a bit of a personal update for those who might be curious what I’m up to.
My day job at Twitch has been very busy. Despite what everyone expected, I haven’t been automated by AI yet, and actually have more work to do than ever before building AI systems across the company. I’m getting to spend more time working on multi-modal stuff, and I’m hoping one of my current projects will turn into a paper next year.
Content creation has been really busy, too. I’m still working on 3-4 tech videos per month, while also trying to expand my mindset content. I’ve been neglecting my second channel recently (which I need to get back to) and I’ve been trying to figure out my short-form content style. But, this has to be a priority now, because (excitingly) I’ve started writing the proposal for my book! That’s what I’ll be working on over the holidays.
Early next year I’ll be doing some exciting expansion on the content front. First of all, I’m hiring two roles (see below if you’re interested!) which I’m hoping will help me scale. But that’s also going to be a learning experience for me, since I’ve never been a manager before, and especially not for my own company.
I’m also looking into launching a lower price group coaching option. I’ve been so thrilled and humbled by the interest in 1:1 coaching, but I just don’t have time to scale it how I’d like to. I’ve had to raise the prices, which makes it less accessible than I want. So, hopefully in Q1/Q2 I’ll be launching something much more affordable that will still give folks the chance to ask questions and get help from me.
Personally, I’ve been doing some decorating around the house. My husband is an artist and has been trying to convince me to prioritize interior design for literally a decade, and I’ve finally discovered he was right. It is nice to have a more aesthetic space.
I’ve been doing a super shitty job going to the gym, but I have a coach so I’m at least accountable for the bare minimum. It’s hard to focus on doing your best professionally at a day job, side business, the gym, AND PUPPY all at the same time. So I’ve turned the effort down on sports for now. It’ll be back soon I’m sure.
Also, puppy. She’s 45lbs/20kg already at 5 months old. This little demon is sucking the life out of me, but I’ve learned more about myself than I have in years.

Thank you all for your support, and enjoy the season. <3
Reminder, I’m hiring!
As my tech channel is growing and I'm expanding into other content areas, I looking for two talented, motivated people to help me grow:
Please take a look, apply if you're a fit, and/or share with anyone you know who you think might be a good candidate. I’ll be reviewing applications in the coming weeks.
