Quick note: If this is the first email you’ve gotten from me in a while, that’s because my newsletter provider had a bug where my emails weren’t being sent properly (for literally six months). 😭
But we’re back! Each week, I share a combination of technical content for AI/ML roles (roadmaps, learnings, recommendations — that kind of thing) and mindset tips for success in challenging fields.
If that’s not your thing, there’s a link to unsubscribe at the bottom. No hard feelings. But I hope you’ll stick around!

What If Your Weaknesses Were Strengths?
In my coaching practice, I often hear from students and career-changers who are worried about things in their professional profile that feel like blockers: too old, non-tech background, bad at math. I get it — I personally relate to every one of those examples. When you're on the outside looking in, it's easy to assume that everyone already in the roles you're aspiring to has advantages you'll never be able to match.
But here's what I've come to believe: you probably have more strengths than you realize. And some of what you're calling weaknesses might actually be your edge.
Take age. Being on the older side means you bring a depth of professional experience that fresh grads simply can't match. You and a recent graduate might have the same number of years coding, but nine times out of ten, the person with a decade of professional experience hits the ground running — because they already know how to communicate, manage their time, and navigate the corporate world.
No tech background? You might take longer to pick up certain technical concepts, sure, but you'll also apply them in ways others won't think to. A business background gives you instincts around customer impact. A marketing background makes you a natural at communicating your work. I came from politics, and it's made me better at designing experiments and building features because I understand human behavior in ways that aren't taught in CS programs.
Bad at math? That's a real hurdle in school, but honestly, it matters a lot less on the job than most people think. What does matter — consistently, across every team I've seen — is communication. And if math was never your thing, there's a good chance storytelling and clarity come more naturally to you.
The same principle applies to personality. There are two sides to every trait: confidence can become ego, high standards can turn into judgment, restlessness fuels risk-taking, and introversion often makes for a better listener. None of these are purely good or purely bad — it depends on how self-aware you are and how intentionally you use them.
So instead of inventorying everything you're behind on, try asking a different question: what do I have that others don't, and how can I use it? Your quirks, your history, and your unconventional path are not liabilities. They're the things that will make you interesting to work with, harder to replicate, and more creative in your thinking.
The people who break in aren't always the most qualified. They're often just the most resourceful about what they already have.
Book 1:1 Coaching Before Prices Increase
Like I shared in last week’s newsletter, I’m launching a learning community in a couple of weeks!
This will be a place where you can ask questions and get feedback from me in a group setting for an affordable rate. I’m still working out the exact details, but it’ll definitely include a-sync and live support, learning resources, accountability, and networking.
I’m sharing this because I’m excited, but also to give you a heads up: Once the community launches, my rates for one-on-one coaching will go up significantly. So, if you want to meet to discuss your career individually, I’d highly recommend booking now!
Thank you all for your support. I’m really looking forward to this and I hope it will be helpful. <3
