AMA: Live This Saturday
This Saturday I’ll be doing my first live stream! Join me on February 15th at 10am Pacific time on YouTube Live for a Q&A session. Don’t forget to click ‘Notify me’ so you’ll get a reminder once the stream starts.
Bring your questions on the data science/ML job search process, study tips, interview preparation, mindset, fitness… whatever you could use help with.
If you can’t join live, don’t worry! Reply to this email with your questions, and I’ll answer them if there’s time. The video will be available on YouTube after the event.
This AMA is open to everyone, but since it’s streamed it will allow comments only (we can’t chat live). As a paid subscriber to this newsletter, you’ll get access to quarterly AMAs with me via Google Meet where we can actually have a live conversation. This will be smaller groups with more dedicated time for questions about your personal journey.
I will schedule the first paid subscriber AMA next month. Thank you for your support. <3

How I Stay Sane
Last year I was inspired by a podcast from Rich Roll where he described his wife's philosophy of radical neutrality. When their car was being repossessed, instead of reacting with anger or distress, she treated the repo man with warmth and respect and maintained a calm, positive outlook throughout the ordeal.
This concept has gradually reshaped my own approach to life. In today's world of polarizing news, emotionally manipulative social media, and deep political divides, I’ve found that I am not only happier, but better able to actually do things that matter if I am not wasting energy on things that are designed to stir me up.
In practical terms, this means I no longer see any news via social media — in fact, I don’t have social media on my phone, and I don’t keep my phone with my throughout the day. My phone has a shelf in the entryway to the house and is only accessible to me if I actively choose to go look at it, or if I’m out and about. It’s not with me while I work, eat, or before bed.
When I do what to learn about current events, I seek out the most neutral sources I can find. If I see language that I know is designed to make me feel strong feelings, I leave immediately in favor of being more bored by the tone and presentation style.
On that note, here’s some boring news:

If AI is Coming for My Job…
Then I better have fun now.
I've been thinking about this lately while researching a video on job security in data science and ML roles. My perspective on how concerned to be shifts as I learn more – the reality is complex and still unclear.
But I've reached one clear conclusion: rather than spending excessive energy preparing for potential negative outcomes, I'm choosing to appreciate and make the most of my current work and stability.
The future holds many possibilities, both challenging and promising. Rather than let uncertainty prevent me from moving forward, I'm focusing on pursuing meaningful (and fun!) experiences and opportunities today.
