Are you using the wrong AI coding tool?

I’ve been getting a lot of questions from folks in the AI/ML Career Launchpad about what the best AI coding tool is: Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, local models… something else?

This week we’re breaking down the main options, their pros and cons, and how to avoid surprise bills. šŸ’ø

When You Know What To Do But You Just Don't Do It

Ah procrastination, our old friend.

Until about six months ago, I was squarely in the Goggins/Hormozi fuck-your-feelings-just-get-it-done camp when it comes to productivity.

And for some people, for some amount of time, that works. Sometimes we really do just need to suck it up and get started.

But sometimes this backfires. Neglecting what’s actually causing the procrastination in the first place makes work feel strained, and in the long run often causes burnout. I have been really enjoying the work of Joe Hudson and Art of Accomplishment recently, and am actually in the middle of one of their intensive leadership courses (it’s been a lot).

In this video, Joe breaks down three reasons we procrastinate:

  1. It’s not the right time. Somehow intuitively we’re recognizing a pattern our logical brain can’t see yet.

  2. You’re using a method that isn’t effective, like focusing on the perfect outcome instead of enjoying the process.

  3. You’re trying to avoid uncomfortable feelings like fear of failure or not feeling "good enough."

For me, #2 has been a problem lately. I’ve been so focused on getting everything done as efficiently as possible that I’ve changed the way I work to be overall less enjoyable. I was starting meetings early and packing my day with no breaks, I stopped listening to music while I work, and I would just power through even when I was starting to feel overwhelmed.

So instead I’ve shifted gears by asking myself, ā€œHow can I enjoy myself just a little bit more right now?ā€ Maybe that means focusing on my breath, or getting a cup of tea, or working from a cafe. It can be as simple as looking out the window or refocusing on why I’m doing all of this, anyway.
