Actually, Data Science is Awesome
A few years ago, data science was hyped as the ultimate career. Opinions have since swung from it being the best job ever to calling it overrated. But for the right person, data science truly does live up to the hype. Hereās why:
Pay & Benefits
The pay and benefits are exceptional, with early-career salaries in the US starting around $120k and climbing to $300-400k+ for experienced professionals. Beyond the money, tech companies generally offer flexibility and good benefits, making the field one of the best in terms of work-life balance and perks.
Accessibility
Even in todayās challenging job market, data science remains accessible to those from diverse backgrounds. With determination, anyoneāeven those with non-technical backgroundsācan learn the necessary skills, and previous experience in other fields can be an asset, helping you carve a niche and transition smoothly.
Flexibility: Make It Your Own
Data science roles often allow you to align your work with your interests, whether in analytics, machine learning, or specific industries like healthcare or finance. The cross-functional nature of the job also builds a broad skill set that can open doors to careers in entrepreneurship, product management, software development, or many other potential trajectories in the future.
Itās Not Boring
The work itself is typically dynamic and engaging, with every project presenting new challenges and learning opportunities. For those who love variety and independence, data science provides the autonomy to explore data and solve problems in meaningful ways.
Itās Challenging
Itās also a field that demands effort, as itās complex and ever-evolving. However, this challenge is part of the appeal, offering constant growth, intellectual satisfaction, and the skills to adapt to a rapidly changing job market.
Ultimately, data science offers the rare combination of the opportunity for financial freedom and fulfilling work. If youāre curious, driven, and ready to take on a challenge, it might just be the career youāve been looking for.

Why I Work Hard: Iām āGratitude-Drivenā
For me, hard work is also a way of honoring my opportunities. I feel incredibly fortunate for my circumstancesāwhere and when I was born, my supportive parents, my health āand coasting through life would feel like disrespecting those without the same privileges. While others might view leisure as the ultimate goal, I find it most rewarding after the contrast of effort.
Pain is inevitable in life. I prefer the struggle of growth to the regret of missed opportunities. Learning new skills not only keeps me sharp but builds resilience for future challenges, giving me confidence to adapt to lifeās uncertainties and alleviating anxiety about the unknown.
It is very important to me that in the limited amount of time I have on this Earth, that I try as hard as I can in every way that is important to me. This quote sums it up perfectly:
āWhen I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left but could say, āI used everything you gave me.āā
Whether helping others, tackling new challenges, or simply being happy, I want to live a life that was as full as it could be.
Ultimately, my drive is rooted in gratitude. By continuing to challenge myself, I honor the opportunities Iāve been given and ensure Iām truly appreciating this incredible life. If this resonates with you, please reply to this email and let me know what drives you to pursue your potential. Iād love to chat.

What Iām Reading
I can confidently credit The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt with helping me navigate relationships with those I donāt always agree with, and stay grounded during turbulent times.
With the holidays already upon us in the U.S., I highly recommend this book for fostering a deeper understandingāand perhaps even empathyāfor the friends and family we see this time of year, especially when disagreements arise. Itās a valuable resource for creating more harmonious and enjoyable gatherings.
